Rubber Sole

My brand new army boots are coming apart at the stitching where the sole meets the shoe. I experienced a little dampness during the recent rain we had. I have a big thing against having wet feet- especially coming from the country's snowy butt-hole, Ohio, where wet feet can cause freezing damage to your toes in the winter.

My boss suggested silicone, the kind you use to seal up fishtanks, or mount ancient African stoneware to suede matboard inside of a shadowbox. The kind I spend my days sniffing, in a shamanistic picture framers' ritual of vision-questing.

I tried it. So far, so good, but it's stopped raining. I walked to work in them yesterday and the bit of it that got smeared outside the seam is peeling off. As long as the stuff stays in the seam, I'm good. I'll keep up observation, we may be onto something. If it works, I'll send my boss an email saying something like:

“Silicone worked great, now I don't have that leaking problem. They don't look as natural, but I still have a great looking pair.”

Context is everything.

First of all I don't know if you would constitute WWII army boots as brand new. Secondly the whole water leakage thing is easily corrected with about two hours of shining them with some kiwi shoe polish(it works really well if you light the kiwi on fire and then rub hot polish on it). As far as a tear in the seam I would recommend getting a new pair. It truly is the only sure fire way to correct your situation, but if you must have those ones the best thing is liquid cement. This particular item you can find at almost any office supply place. If you are willing to separate your money from your wallet give me a call and I can hook you up with a military clothing and sales on line. You can find all sorts of top of the line army gear their for a decent price and on top of all that you would pay no tax on the item, because it is derrived from the government itself. Now say thank you uncle sam and you better save a special thanks for your younger brother.

LOL, thanks bro :)

The picture is not actualy my boots, my boots are much newer. When I first bought my boots, as I have done since I was 14, I coated them with an entire can of Kiwi Mink oil and let them soak for 3 days by the heater. Usualy its works just fine, but this time it seems to have rotted the stitching around the soles a bit.

Part of the problem, I think, is that whenever I don't buy the "wide" size, my fat feet usualy wear out the boots faster.

Haven't tried the liquid cement, but the silicone has worked well so far, just walked through the rain this week in them and my feet stayed dry.
